AFP-NM Calls for Fiscal Restraint as Legislative Session Begins
SANTA FE, NM — As the New Mexico State Legislature kicks off for a 30-day session, Americans for Prosperity-New Mexico (AFP-NM) is urging lawmakers to hold the line and not increase government spending or taxes on hardworking New Mexicans.
AFP-NM will focus on legislation that improves the cost of living in the Land of Enchantment, not increasing pressure on families already facing an affordability crisis in the state. Instead, lawmakers should focus on removing barriers that make life more expensive — including protecting affordable energy, advancing education freedom, and advancing medical liability reforms that lower costs and expand access to care.
AFP-NM State Director Sarah Hetemi issued the following statement:
“In order to improve New Mexico, we must stop throwing money at broken government programs and increasing taxes on already financially strained families across the state. In the 30-day session, AFP urges lawmakers to remove government barriers in the lives of New Mexicans by standing strong on our state’s out-of-control spending and instead focusing on efforts to improve education freedom and affordable energy in the Land of Enchantment.”
