AFP-NM Launches Opposition Against SB 18, State Director to Testify Before Senate
SANTA FE, NM — Americans for Prosperity-New Mexico (AFP-NM) is launching a grassroots and digital campaign in opposition to the Clear Horizons Act (SB 18), a progressive proposal to shackle New Mexico’s energy producers and devastate the state’s economy.
SB 18 would establish unrealistic timelines and overly burdensome regulations on the energy industry, resulting in utility prices skyrocketing for New Mexicans. While New Mexico has worked to significantly reduce methane emissions from energy production, this misguided bill would drive producers out of the state, resulting in fewer jobs and less revenue for New Mexicans.
AFP-NM State Director Sarah Hetemi issued the following statement:
“Every New Mexican will be negatively impacted by the Clear Horizons Act, and New Mexico simply can’t afford to let this misguided bill progress through the legislative process. That’s why I’m testifying before the state Senate — SB 18 would devastate our economy and drive utility price increases for hardworking New Mexicans already facing an affordability crisis.
“New Mexicans want policies that will create jobs and bolster our energy industry, unleashing American independence and affordable energy. Instead, this bill would set unrealistic timelines that exceed current technology and regulations.”
AFP-NM intends to rally its grassroots army against this bill by deploying digital ads and voter contact efforts, and by educating New Mexicans about the pitfalls of the so-called Clear Horizons Act.
Later this morning, AFP-NM State Director Sarah Hetemi will testify before the New Mexico State Senate Conservation Committee in opposition to SB 18. Hetemi will be at the Capitol and available to meet with reporters on the importance of defeating this bill.
