AFP-NM: Passage of HB 11 a “Serious Blow” to New Mexicans
SANTA FE, NM – Last week, AFP-New Mexico, along with a group of activists, traveled to Santa Fe to oppose HB 11, legislation that places unnecessary financial strain to businesses and employees in a state already struggling with poverty and a fragile economy.
Upon the House passage of HB 11, AFP-New Mexico State Director Sarah Hetemi released the following statement:
“The majority in the New Mexico House has once again dealt a serious blow to businesses, forcing costly new mandates that make our state less competitive and drive jobs and opportunities to our neighbors in the east and west. No wonder New Mexico continues to have one of the highest unemployment rates in the region. This is yet another example of failed leadership in Santa Fe—one that will only further penalize New Mexicans and reinforce why we need a change in political leadership.”
